Program Overview

Artificial Intelligence Journalism (AIJ) Diploma provides concepts and applications for non-technical professionals in journalism, media, and entertainment. It combines theoretical foundations with hands-on applications to help separate myth from reality and leverage AI to enhance news production, content creation, and organizational efficiency. Through real-world case studies, practical labs, and expert-led sessions, you will gain the skills to assess and implement AI solutions in newsrooms, while also understanding the ethical and strategic implications of these technologies.

The diploma consists of five courses, delivered over five weeks. 

(This diploma is designed for journalists, media practitioners, content creators and media academics).

 

 

  1. Examine AI and machine learning concepts and their applications in media and journalism to improve workflows and efficiency.
  2. Evaluate ethical challenges and devise strategies for responsible AI adoption in media.
  3. Utilize AI tools for content creation, news automation, and audience engagement.
  4. Assess the organizational readiness for integrating AI solutions within newsroom environments.
  5. Design AI-driven strategies aligned with newsroom objectives to foster innovation and digital transformation.
  6. Analyze the impact of AI on media workflows, audience engagement, and content personalization.
  7. Develop ethical frameworks that emphasize transparency, accountability, and public trust in AI-powered journalism.
  8. Lead digital transformation initiatives by effectively integrating AI solutions across diverse media environments.

The diploma consists of five courses (pass or fail), each delivered over five weeks. Each course includes 18 hours of live sessions (two sessions per week, one session in week 0 and week 5) supported by additional resources and assessments on the Moodle LMS platform.

Classes are fixed for all courses twice a week. Monday and Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm

Admission Requirements for AI Journalism Diploma:

  • Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited university with a minimum overall grade of "Good" or a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.
  • A proof of two years of practical experience in the field of media, or content creation. Or a membership of the journalism syndicate.
  • Valid Proof of English Proficiency.
  • Applicants who satisfy one or more of the following criteria qualify for an exemption of the English language requirements:

    - AUC graduates.

    - Applicants who spent the last four consecutive years of their university where English is the language of instruction.

After registering, fulfilling the application and documents requirements, and paying the application fee online:

A high committee composed of university administration and faculty members will review the applications and evaluate the documents to select applicants. Based on this, the committee will make a decision to accept or reject the applicant to the program. 

This decision is based on:

  • The number of available students in each cohort (35 students).

  • Gender, demographic, geographic, and professional balance.

Applicants will be notified with the committee's decision via email in case of acceptance or rejection.

Documents Required for AI Journalism Diploma Applications:

  • A valid credit card to pay the online application fee (500 LE)
  • A photocopy of an official and stamped graduation certificate, including the cumulative GPA.
  • A photocopy of the passport or national ID card (for Egyptians only).
  • A 4x6 personal photo.
  • A photocopy of two-year cumulative experience certificate. If you have worked for more than one organization during the two years, you must submit a certificate of experience from each organization.
  • An updated CV in English.
  • A valid proof of English Language Proficiency.

Tuition fee (payment is online by credit card)

  • A non-refundable 500 Egyptian pounds application fee.
  • The total cost of the diploma is EGP 38,000 for Egyptians or USD 1,950 for non-Egyptians.
  • The cost of each subject is EGP 7,600 for Egyptians or USD 390 for non-Egyptians.
  • Each course must be paid separately during the diploma.

Late Fee Payment Policy

  • If tuition fees are not paid by the deadline, a late fee of EGP 500 for Egyptian students and USD 35 for non-Egyptian students will be added to the student's account the following day. Students may pay within five days of the late fee being added.
  • If tuition fees are not paid within this period, the student will be automatically dropped from the course.
  • In case of failure in any of the diploma’s courses, the student has the right to retake the course with the next batch and repeat the course only once more. 

  • The diploma courses must be studied in the order prescribed for each batch. Therefore, the courses cannot be skipped without completing the course before. 

  • Accordingly, fees of the repeated course, may vary from batch to another. 

  • In case of failure or withdrawal, the diploma must be completed within a maximum of two consecutive batches.

Program Refund Policy:

  • Students are entitled to a full refund of course fees if they withdraw three working days before the start of the course.
  • Participating students are entitled to a 75% refund of course fees if they withdraw within three working days before the start of the course.
  • Students are entitled to a 50% refund of course fees if they withdraw during the first week of the course.
  • Students are not entitled to any refund of course fees if they withdraw after the end of the first week of the course.
  • Applicants are not entitled to a refund of application fees.

To request a refund, send an email to [email protected] with the following information in the subject line:

  • "Refund Request"

  • Participant's Name

  • Participant's ID Number

  • In order to pass, participants must get at least an accumulation of 70% or up in all course assessments in addition to 70% or up in the capstone project in each course.

  • Attendance is required at least 80% of the course sessions. Students can only miss a maximum of  two sessions per course.

  • The camera must be open during the live sessions. Failure to open the camera will result in not passing the subject.

  • The diploma is offered online via the American University in Cairo's Moodle platform. This requires a high-speed internet connection to attend the live sessions and participate in the course requirements.

  • The applicant must be proficient in using a computer and must have a computer available during the study period, not relying solely on a mobile phone.

  • The applicant must be familiar with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF), know how to search the Internet, and be proficient in dealing with email (Gmail) and its applications such as Google Drive.

  • A professional diploma in AI Journalism is awarded by the American University in Cairo to participating students who successfully complete all coursework and the graduation project, achieving a passing rate of 70% in both.

  • A separate professional digital certificate is awarded for each subject upon completion.
