Kamal Adham Center for Television and Digital Journalism

The Kamal Adham Center for Television and Digital Journalism is the premier center in the region advancing broadcast journalism. Through its master’s in television and digital journalism, the center prepares graduate students for broadcast careers. The center’s Professional Development Program is designed for training professionals and offering new skills. The center publishes Arab Media & Society journal—a main resource of information on the region’s dynamic media landscape. The center is also a vehicle for AUC TV, the student-run broadcast station administered by undergraduate and graduate students, under the supervision of the director of the Kamal Adham Center.

Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud Center for American Studies and Research (CASAR)

The Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud Center for American Studies and Research (CASAR) serves as a
catalyst for independent research in American studies both within the university and with the
outside community by providing intellectual and information resources to support those wishing
to study the United States more fully. CASAR facilitates dialogue on issues involving Egypt, the MENA region, the United States and the world. The center also runs an active public outreach program that includes student trips,
media programs, public conferences and colloquia with Egyptian universities. Furthermore, CASAR’s online library has a collection of publications, media articles and research papers presented by faculty, students and researchers at AUC.

Cynthia Nelson Institute for Gender and Women's Studies

The Cynthia Nelson Institute for Gender and Women’s Studies (IGWS) is an academic research institute and a graduate teaching center for scholars, researchers and graduate students interested in gender issues in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. The research institute serves as a resources nexus through which research projects, conferences, workshops, policy debates and educational programs on gender issues are engaged. The graduate center provides students with an interdisciplinary and transnational perspective in GWST with a special emphasis on the Middle East and North African region.

Center for Migration and Refugee Studies

The Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (CMRS) is an interdisciplinary center of The American University in Cairo. It aims at furthering the scientific knowledge of the large, long-standing and more recent, refugee and migration movements witnessed in this region. But it is concerned with questions of refugees and migration in the international system as a whole, both at the theoretical and practical levels. CMRS functions include instruction, research, training and outreach. CMRS outreach involves working with its environment, disseminating knowledge and sensitization to refugee and migration issues. It also provides services to the refugee community in Cairo and transfers its expertise in this respect to other international institutions.

Middle East Studies Center (MESC)

The Middle East Studies Center (MESC) draws upon various methods and disciplines of study. The interdisciplinary nature of the Area Studies program provides students with exposure to a variety of curricula offered by the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy. Students are given the unique opportunity to study the Middle East through an array of historical, sociological, political and economic frameworks. The mission of the Middle East Studies Center is a vivid expression of the horizons of a liberal arts education. The center provides students with academic credentials and firsthand knowledge to pursue careers in academia, diplomacy and the nonprofit sector, as well as business, finance, public relations, journalism and cultural affairs.
