Projects and Partnerships
The Kamal Adham Center for Television and Digital Journalism & Facebook Journalism Project
The Kamal Adham Center for Television and Digital Journalism in the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the American University in Cairo, in partnership with Facebook Journalism Project, collaborate to offer a comprehensive one-year program to support Egyptian media organizations and individuals in addressing some of the pressing issues and challenges facing the industry during and after the coronavirus pandemic.
Aiming to advance the communication and journalism societies and to ensure the provision of high quality, reliable and well-informed content to the public, the project seeks to equip journalists with the main skills and tools of digital journalism, in order for them to adapt to the unprecedented events resulting from the pandemic. This will be accomplished by offering capacity building and mentorship to individual journalists; and empowering and connecting publishers and journalists with tools and equipment to help them perform their duties amid the remote work measures that many have not been prepared or ready for.
The project includes an intensive training program to build and enhance the digital capabilities of local publishers, through a series of mini diplomas in medical and health journalism; as well as an initiative to provide the necessary Internet connectivity tools to 350 Egyptian journalists to enable the production of multimedia content under remote-work conditions. Finally, the project will involve an intensive customized digital transformation mentorship program aimed at 10 selected local publishers and content creators.
Egyptian media professionals, journalists, publishers and others working in the media and communication industries may check the eligibility criteria and application process for each of the three main project tracks below.
