AUCTV
AUCTV began broadcasting in 1995 from AUC’s Tahrir Square campus. The student-run channel is technically and editorially managed by faculty and staff of the Kamal Adham Center for Television and Digital Journalism under the supervision of the center’s director. Undergraduate students, as well as television and digital journalism MA students, supply programming for the channel through coursework. This is in addition to the center’s coverage of major events on campus. Students practically apply their television journalism skills—including writing, editing, producing and directing stories and shows—to bring the AUC community the latest news, current affairs programs, features and live events taking place on and off campus. Programming also includes content from the Kamal Adham Center for Television and Digital Journalism’s archives, showcasing JRMC and TVDJ students’ weekly shows and unique feature stories.
Equipped with streaming encoders, the center can broadcast continuously to all TV sets on campus. Broadcast material may be fed directly from the studio, live from other locations on campus, or from prerecorded content. The feed is also streamed through AUCTV’s YouTube channel. In addition, the broadcast is available through the AUCTV Android app, which features the latest award-winning documentaries along with daily programming. This setup allows students to work within the operational structure of a live news channel and experience the journalistic environment of daily broadcast production. AUCTV’s social media platforms further ensure that students gain exposure to both traditional media settings and interactive digital media.
State-of-the-Art Facilities
Studio
The center offers students the opportunity to gain practical experience in two state-of-the-art, broadcast-quality studios: a three-camera full HD studio that can be expanded to six cameras and a three-camera standard-definition (SD) studio. Both studios are connected to digital control rooms and equipped with video switchers, audio mixers, videotape recorders, video servers and online graphics capabilities. In addition to in-studio interviews, the facilities also support live interviews from the field and over the telephone.
Field Production
The center is equipped with a wide range of professional field cameras, including 4K, Full HD and digital video (HDV): 7 Sony A7 Mark III, 7 Canon 5D Mark IV, 10 Canon XA55, 10 Canon XA30, 5 Sony NX100, 6 Sony PMW100, 10 Sony HVR-Z1, 5 Sony HVR-A1E and 1 Sony HXR-NX3D camera, along with complete field accessories.

Post-production and High Resolution Editing Facilities

- A (DV/Betacam) linear edit suite
- A fully isolated audio recording booth
- A dubbing rack to convert between different television systems and formats
Central Apparatus Room
The Central Apparatus Room houses the core equipment for the center’s servers and serves as the storage facility to which all labs are connected. It contains the center’s online storage, core infrastructure and the backend of the online playout servers.
Ingest Room
The center’s ingest room enables playback and recording from DV, HD and Betacam equipment, as well as the recording of material from news agencies.
Tape Library
The center maintains an extensive video library of more than 1,000 Betacam, DVCAM and DV tapes dating back to 1987, the year the Kamal Adham Center was founded. The collection includes raw footage, edited master tapes and video magazine shows, as well as interviews with prominent Egyptian and international figures and coverage of major news events at AUC and across Egypt.
