Accreditations
MPA and MPP are the first two programs to be “Triple Crown” accredited globally in the field of Public Affairs Education. The European Association for Public Administration Accreditation (EAPAA) on awarded full accreditation to The School of Global Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) Master of Public Administration (MPA) and the Master of Public Policy (MPP) programs. This completes the two programs “Triple Crown”. The MPA and MPP had already received full accreditation from the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs and Administration (NASPAA) in July 2015 and from the International Commission on the Accreditation of Public Administration Education and Training (ICAPA) in July 2017.
EAPAA, ICAPA and NASPAA accreditations uniquely combine a fusion of International and European standards of public service education. This singular recognition of both AUC’s MPA and MPP by all three agencies is a testimony to the stellar quality education at American University in Cairo (AUC), as well as the pioneering achievement of these two programs in the MENA region at par with the comparable programs in US, European and other international universities.
The Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs and Administration, is the recognized global accreditor of master’s degree programs in the fields Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration having accredited 190 programs from its member schools. NASPAA’s twofold mission is to promote excellence in education and training for public service and to promote the ideal public service. Its accreditation of both the MPA and MPP meant that the Department of Public Policy and Administration was the first outside of North America to have two such programs recognized.
The department is currently a member of the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs and Administration (NASPAA). NASPAA is the global standard in public service education. It is the membership association of nearly 300 schools of public policy, public affairs, public administration, as well as public and nonprofit management, located across the U.S. and in 15 other countries around the globe. NASPAA is also the recognized global accreditor of master's degree programs in these fields, having accredited over 190 programs from its member schools. NASPAA's twofold mission is to promote excellence in education and training for public service and to promote the ideal of public service. On July 8, 2015, NASPAA announced the accreditation of two programs at The American University in Cairo (AUC). Both the Master of Public Administration (MPA) and the Master of Public Policy (MPP) degrees earned accreditation from NASPAA.
It is the only quality assurance authority in Public Administration which is active throughout Europe. It has so far accredited over 50 programs across the European continent, including most leading institutes in the field. AUC ‘s MPA and MPP programs were the first two programs outside the Council of Europe to receive accreditation from EAPAA.
Accreditations are developed by a joint United Nations/International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA) task force which was initiated by the United Nations in 2005. This was the first time ICAPA has accredited a graduate public administration/policy program in the MENA region.
In addition, our department is a member of the International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA). The mission of the IASIA is to strengthen administrative capacity-building around the globe, advance excellence in public administration education and training and to conduct, discuss, and disseminate cutting-edge scholarly research and "smart practices" on governance and administration.
PPAD is also a founding member of the Association for Middle Eastern Public Policy and Administration (AMEPPA). The goal of AMEPPA is to advance peace and prosperity in the Middle East through sound governance. This association is committed to developing local, regional and global networks that will support the advancement of public service activities within the Middle East.
