Pathways Beyond Neoliberalism: Voices From MENA Project

Pathways Beyond Neoliberalism: Voices From MENA is a research program based in The American University in Cairo (AUC). The program is hosted by the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP). It is on a five-year Ford Foundation grant (2022-2027). 

About the Program

The program is part of a global research initiative involving partner universities in India, South Africa, Colombia and Mexico. Focusing on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), the program examines the relationship between economic systems and political structures while exploring more equitable and sustainable development models.

Our publications are academic knowledge-production and research-dissemination efforts aimed at changing the narrative of the economy in academia and policy circles, and at demonstrating how the economy is moving beyond the neoliberal paradigm.

Pathways Conferences

The Pathways Beyond Neoliberalism: Voices From MENA Program hold annual conference between September-November of each year. We have successfuly concluded two conferenes :Political Economy of the Global South in September 2024, and Political Economy of the Middle East & North Africa  Conference in November 2025.
