The Photographic Gallery in the department of Journalism and Mass Communication hosted an exhibition of the best in visual journalism for the year 2022 as part of Egypt Press Photo annual competition.
Egypt Press Photo is a renowned annual competition of national photojournalism organized by the Syndicate of Journalists and run by the Photojournalists Collective. In its 17th edition the competition consisted of over 1700 entries by 215 photographers who competed in 8 different categories, namely: spot news, photo story, sports, daily life, daily life outside of Egypt, multimedia, in addition to the newly added categories of student work and climate change.
The exhibition at The Photographic Gallery showcased 40 projects of contemporary photojournalism produced by 35 local Egyptian photojournalists.
Guest Speakers:
Sahl Abdelrahman (b. 1999, El Fayoum, Egypt) is a street and documentary photographer based in Fayoum. His photography documents life in the countryside; his award winning photo essay currently on view at The Photographic Gallery explores the issue of child labour in the agricultural sector. Sahl studied photojournalism and documentary photography at the Danish School of Media and Journalism (DMJX). His photography has been exhibited and published in local and international festivals, competitions and magazines, among them Beirut Image Festival, Alserkal Avenue in Dubai, World Press Photo, Getty Images Reportage, National Geographic, and Egypt Press Photo.
Yousef Naser (b. 2003, Cairo) is currently studying photography at the High Institute of Cinema, Giza. Naser won the ‘Young Amateur Photographer of the Year 2022’ award. He is also recipient of multiple international awards, including the German Photo Cup, the Photographic Society of America award, FujiFilm Egypt award, Egypt Press Photo, among others. His work has been exhibited locally and internationally.
