The Annual Awards Dinner to Celebrate 26 MA Class and Recognizes Isaad Younis
Cairo, February 4, 2018 – The Kamal Adham Center for Television and Digital Journalism in the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at The American University in Cairo (AUC) hosted its annual awards dinner to celebrate the 26th graduating class of the master’s in television and digital journalism program. Director of the center, Hussein Amin, delivered the keynote address welcoming attendees, the graduating class, and their families and friends. Tarek Shawki, Egyptian minister of education also delivered a speech o the importance of media in society.
Amin also recognized this year’s guest of honor, veteran broadcaster Isaad Younis, for a lifetime of achievement in the fields of media, film and broadcast journalism. Younis addressed the graduating class with words of advice as they prepare to venture into the field of broadcast journalism after completing their studies at the Kamal Adham Center. She also talked about the importance of media platforms in encouraging local industries to compete with their foreign counterparts, especially in times of economic hardship.
The graduating class then received their certificates and awards from Shawki and Amin. Their capstone projects, consisting of video reports on various current affairs topics, were screened for the esteemed guests, families, and friends.
The event, held at AUC’s Oriental Hall, was well attended by public figures, media professionals and academics, as well as government representatives. Guests included President of the National Council for Women Maya Morsy, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Mostafa El Feki, prominent TV presenters Amr El Shinnawi and Salma El Shamma and Scriptwriter Medhat El Adl. Assistant Secretary-General and Head of Media Department for League of Arab States Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazala, Director of the Communication and Social Media Sector for the League of Arab States Hanaa Serour, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Abou Zeid, Associate Professor at the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at AUC Naila Hamdy, Professor of Practice Mervat Abo Ouf, Assistant Professors Rasha Allam and Hesham Dinana were also in attendance. Other guests included media entrepreneur Moody El Hakeem, radio presenter Marwa Shatla and Journalist and Founder of Arab Media Group Sabry Ghoneim. This is in addition to President of the International Academy for Engineering and Media Science and former Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Universities Salwa El Ghareeb, U.S. Embassy’s Press Attaché Maxwell Stoneman and Dean of School of Mass Communication at MTI University Samy El Sherif. Kamal Adham Center Founder Professor Emeritus Abdallah Schleifer and former Kamal Adham Center Director Hafez Al Mirazi were also present.
