Our first PEGS conference explored the current challenges to global economic governance and the potential areas for institutional and policy changes. Governance refers to the normative, regulatory and institutional mechanisms that govern the processes, flows and transactions in the world economy. It encompasses international trade, global financial markets, international financial institutions, technological dissemination, food security and anthropogenic environmental disasters, the organization of energy markets and the prospects for Green transition, among others.

The premise of our conference is that despite political and historical divergence within the Global South, nations outside the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) share many basic structural features that require comparative study. Further, such comparative study has to take place on a south-south basis if we are to create new political economy thinking. Hence contributing to the conception and development of a governance reform agenda for the Global South as a whole, emphasizing commonalities and complementarities while also acknowledging incompatibilities and divergences.

This conference is part of a series of events pursuing the development of a post-neoliberal order.
