Shahira S. Fahmy to join the Advisory Board of Journal of Global Communication and Online Media

April 1, 2021

The Immediate Past Editor of Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly (JMCQ), Professor Louisa Ha and Founding Editor of a new online journal sponsored by the School of Journalism and Communication at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) invited Professor Shahira S. Fahmy on March 25 to join the advisory board of her new journal.

The journal is planned to officially launch in early 2022. Its policy is one board member from one university. All board members will be invited to Shanghai or other cities in China to attend its annual editorial board meeting and conferences organized by SISU, such as its NCA Shanghai Dialogue Forum in 2022.

The journal’s mission is to bring the best research on global communication and global online media platforms including social media and mobile applications to the world with its bilingual Chinese and English format and multi-language version abstracts based on official UN languages (Arabic, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, English).

Half of the articles will be translated from best-published pieces in non-English language communication journals from around the world with one of them being a review on the state of research in a region or a country. The other half of the articles will be open submissions of English language original research on digital platforms such as blogs, online news sites, review sites such as TripAdvisor, Wikipedia, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter WeChat, TikTok, Whatspps, Line, etc., that have global implications.

The journal welcomes quantitative, qualitative and critical approaches to the study of global communication and digital platforms and strives to maximize the access and international impact of the scholarship published. Empirical studies are preferred over conceptual articles. Descriptive studies with national representative samples for benchmarking will also be considered.
