Kamal Adham Center Celebrates the Graduation of Class of 2024-2025

The Kamal Adham Center for Television and Digital Journalism in the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) hosted its highly-awaited and well-attended annual awards dinner event in the historical Oriental Hall, AUC Tahrir Campus on Thursday, February 13, 2025.

The 34th ceremony celebrated the graduation of the class of 2024-2025 for the Master of Arts in Television and Digital Journalism with the students’ families, friends and colleagues in attendance. During this annual gathering, the Adham Center typically recognizes key figures in the media industry. This year, the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient was Khairy Hassan, a veteran news anchor and television presenter. The Best Performance Award recipient was multimedia journalist and Adham Center alumna Rehab Ismail, MA ’21.

Hussein Amin, professor and director of the Kamal Adham Center for Television and Digital Journalism, delivered the opening remarks and introduced the night’s awards. He also highlighted recent achievements made by the center’s different divisions. Notable among the good news shared with the night’s guests was news of AUC TV winning third place in the Television National Signature Station Awards of the Broadcast Education Association's (BEA) Festival of Media Arts 2025. Amin also shared that two of the center’s most recent graduates, Amira Sayed and Sara Huweedi, also won awards at the Broadcast Education Association’s Festival of Media Arts 2025. 

Moreover, Amin announced that a new pledge agreement had just been signed between Sheikh Fasial Kamal Adham and AUC to offer three new fellowships named “The Mr. and Mrs. Kamal Adham Fellowship in Television and Digital Journalism.” Amin also announced that starting in 2025, the center will begin action steps towards applying for international accreditation through the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC). Amin also presented recent achievements made by the center’s other divisions, the Professional Development Program and the Research and Publications division, Arab Media & Society. Short video clips were prepared by AUCTV and screened to showcase the honorees’ extensive media journeys as well as excerpts from the graduating class capstone projects.

Amin was joined by esteemed members of the Adham Center’s Higher International Advisory Council, Kamal Shukri, lawyer and the Kamal Adham family representative; Amr Allissy, television presenter and president of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation States Broadcasting Union (OSBU); and Hossam Saleh, chief business officer of United Media Services Group, in presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to Khairy Hassan, as well as presenting the Best Performance Award to Rehab Ismail. Both honorees delivered thank-you remarks to the attendance as well as words of motivation to the graduating class as they embark on their media careers.

The guests also included; Samy El Sherif, dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication, MTI University and secretary-general of the Islamic Universities Association; Abdullah Bankhar; board member of Hadhrmout Foundation; Rasha Allam, chair of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication; Hassan Emad Mekkawi, former dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication, Cairo University and chair of the Media Studies Committee at the Supreme Council for Universities (SCU); Heba ElSemary, dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication (Nahda University); Mona ElHadidi, former president of the International Academy for Engineering and Media Sciences (IAEMS) and chair of the Media Training Committee at the Higher Council of Media Regulation; Amany Fahmy, dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication (MSA University); Dina AbouZeid, dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication, October 6 University; Farag ElKamel, academic advisor, New Media and Cinematic Studies, ESLSCA University; Nermeen ElAzrak, professor of journalism, Cairo University; Hemmat Allam, OSBU advisor of international cooperation; Taghreed Hussein, head of NileTV International; Wafaa ElGhazaly, deputy editor-in-chief, Akhbar AlYoum; Sabry Ghoneim, veteran journalist, and founder of the Arab Media Center; veteran journalist Moody ElHakeem; Ibrahim Fawzy, former minister of Industry; Amr Abdelhameed, head of Ten TV; Ashraf Madboli, news producer, BBC Arabic; Ahmed Youssef, television presenter at Egypt’s Channel One; Ayman Adly, journalist; in addition to faculty members from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Kamal Adham Center, including Nadine ElSayed, Kim Fox, Fady Ramzy, Mohamed Hashem, Adel ElMahrouky, Ahmed Atef and Hagar Adss, among other public figures, media professionals and academics.
