AUC Graduates Selected as Marie Curie Doctoral Fellows in Prestigious EuroMedMig PhD Network
The Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (CMRS) is proud to share that Sana Gasmi ’19 political science and ’24 migration and refugee studies graduate and Mahmoud Mansour ’21 economics graduate and current research officer at the CMRS, have been selected as Marie Curie Doctoral fellows, as part of the EuroMedMig PhD Network for the 2025 academic year.
The Euro-Mediterranean Research Network on Migration (EuroMedMig) is an independent interdisciplinary research network on migrations in the mediterranean. It is a platform of researchers promoting multilateral knowledge production and exchange both between Universities and with Policy and Social actors.
The core mission is to contribute to the development of mediterranean migration studies away from eurocentric and simplistic lenses, and to foster mediterranean thinking in the migration research agenda by advancing epistemological endeavours on how migrations contribute to Mediterranean region-building. The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions fellowship which operates under the Horizon 2020 program and is funded by the EU commission, is considered to be amongst the most prestigious and competitive doctoral fellowships, both on the EU and international level.
For this year’s call, 12 doctoral positions were opened for applicants from across the world. Out of these 12 positions, two were filled by AUC graduates (the only University with more than one selected candidate), with Sana Gasmi selected for PhD position 2 “Vulnerabilities and Governance, Policies and Politics” hosted at the University of Catania, and Mahmoud Mansour selected for PhD position 11 “Revisiting Theories of Economy and Labour Markets” hosted at University Pompeu Fabra, in collaboration with The American University in Cairo.
