Adjunct Faculty Salma ElGhetany twice as a Judge in 2021
ElGhetany will serve as a judge for the 2021 Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Festival of Media Arts's international competition. This is the second year for this category in the annual festival, as well has her second year as a Judge in the competition. The festival's international competition is open to encourage submissions of student and faculty creative works produced outside the US that promote global engagement and an appreciation and awareness of world languages and cultures. The competition includes four categories; audio, documentary, film and video, and television news. Each category allows both short-form and long-form entries for both students and faculty.
In October 2021, ElGhetany was also selected for the judging panel of the 2021 Media Information Literacy Youth Hackathon. Hack Media and Information Literacy for Better Futures – is a Global Youth Hackathon led by UNESCO and South Africa, in cooperation with the European Commission, IBM Z and other partners. Teams from all around the world submit ideas and proposals in English, French or Spanish languages, and are evaluated by a blind panel based on a rubric that includes coherence, innovation, feasibility, sustainability and potential impact. Results were announced on October 27 during a plenary session at the end of the Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2021 Youth.
