The Longing of the Stranger Whose Path Has Been Broken
Solo Exhibition by Rehab Eldalil
September 14 - October 26, 2023
The Photographic Gallery, located in Abdul Latif Jameel Hall, AUC New Cairo campus, curated an exhibition of the long-term collaborative project The Longing of the Stranger Whose Path Has Been Broken.
The exhibition reflects on what it means to be a Bedouin in contemporary times. Over 10 years, the award-winning documentary photographer collaborated with the Bedouin community of South Sinai, Egypt, to explore the notions of belonging and interconnectedness between people and land, while reconnecting with her indigenous ancestry. This approach culminated in a body of work that celebrates the Indigenous experience by acknowledging the community’s voice and collaboration in the creative process. The exhibition showcased a complementary collection of photographs, poetry, embroidered photographs and video.
The Longing of the Stranger Whose Path Has Been Broken was developed under Arab Funds for Arts and Culture (AFAC) and the Magnum Foundation’s Arab Documentary Photography (ADP) Program 2020 and National Geographic Society’s Emergency Grant for Journalists 2020. The project was published as a book in early 2023 and is available for sale worldwide.
