Training
Since its inception in 2000, the center has been widely recognized for its specialized short courses that provide training to practitioners and researchers in the field of migration and refugees. CMRS short courses are attended by staff of organizations working with refugees and migrants, researchers as well as by MA and PhD students aiming to gain specific training for their research work.
Certificate in Migration Governance
To effectively and efficiently govern migration in MENA, comprehensive and common knowledge on migration is required for government officials and other important stakeholders in each of the MENA countries. The aim is to enhance cooperation and identify a common strategy to maximize the benefits of the migration phenomenon, as well as minimize its costs for the different Governments of the region. This certificate is for government officials, local non-governmental staff, and other relevant stakeholders.
Short Courses
The Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (CMRS) short courses provide specialized education in particular topics within the field of refugees and migration. Each course is an intensive five-day course tailored to practitioners in the field as well as students and researchers.
Professional Development Courses
Professional Development Courses (PDC) are a collaboration of the American University in Cairo’s Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (CMRS) and St. Andrew’s Refugee Services (StARS). The goal of these courses is to provide professional development opportunities to individuals working on behalf of the refugee and migrant communities of Cairo.
Cairo Community Interpreter Project (CCIP)
The Cairo Community Interpreter Project (CCIP) is a community-based interpreting training and technical assistance project in the Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (CMRS) at AUC.
CCIP began in 2002 as a collaborative effort between CMRS and interpreters working in refugee aid NGOs to provide high-quality interpreting training grounded in the unique contexts and challenges of refugee and migration fieldwork in migration transit countries.
