Welcome to the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy. Located in Cairo, in the heart of the dynamic Middle East and North Africa region, the School of GAPP provides policy students with a practical and multidisciplinary understanding of the world around them. We are here to bridge the gap between diverse viewpoints and to critically examine both the theory and practice of public policymaking, while seeking innovative ways to approach policymaking locally, regionally and internationally.

Naila Hamdy

Naila Hamdy

Naila Hamdy is associate professor of journalism and associate dean for graduate studies, School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the American University in Cairo. She teaches in both the undergraduate and graduate programs and is the recipient of several awards, including an Excellence in Teaching award. Professor Hamdy a former journalist, has current research interests in the Arab media systems and the journalism profession. Her book chapters and articles focus on the journalism culture, the role of media, news production, and social and digital media impacts. She is published in the International Communication Gazette, Journal of Middle East Media, The Global Media Journal-Arabian Edition, Journal of Arab & Muslim Media Research, the Westminster Papers in Communication and Culture and the Journal of Communication.

Dr Shahjahan

Shahjahan Bhuiyan

Shahjahan Bhuiyan has been the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies and Administration in the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) since Spring 2016. He is an Associate Professor of Public Administration and the former chair of the Department of Public Policy and Administration (PPAD). He was previously at KIMEP University in Kazakhstan, where he was the Dean of the College of Social Sciences, Chair of the Department of Public Administration for two terms, and Associate Professor of Public Administration (2007-2012). He was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Oxford University's Oxford Institute of Population Ageing (OIA) and the Inaugural Democratic Governance Fellow at UNDP's Oslo Governance Center. He has extensively published in the fields of governance, public administration, public policy, and sustainable development.
