Professor Shahira S. Fahmy participates in a training course on mediation for the Arab Women Mediators Network

December 6, 2021

Fahmy spoke about the role of media and soft power in promoting Arab women's participation in peace processes at a training course organized for the members of the Arab Women Mediators Network - affiliated to the League of Arab States.

The League of Arab States in collaboration with UN Women Regional Office for Arab States (ROAS) have taken the lead to establish the Arab Women Mediators Network, pursuant to the ongoing cooperation towards the advancement of the status of women and girls in the Arab region. The Arab Women Mediators Network functions within the framework of the Regional Strategy and Executive Action Plan on the Protection of Arab Women: Peace and Security, which serves to provide implementation tools for UNSCR 1325 (2000) across Arab member states.

In the context of the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA)'s efforts to advance the implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security agenda through enhancing women’s participation in conflict resolution and peace processes, the training course, which continued through to December 2, aimed to enhance the members' skills in gender-inclusive mediation as well as their overall understanding of women's positive contributions to peace and security. The participants were female ambassadors from 10 different Arab countries.
