Master of Arts in Migration and Refugee Studies (MA)
The uniqueness of the Center for Migration and Refugee Studies’ (CMRS) Masters of Arts (MA) program in migration and refugee studies is that it enables students to learn about migratory issues concerning the region from the perspective of the region itself. Knowledge on migration and refugees has predominately been produced by countries of the North. The perspective of the south has been absent from the migration literature. CMRS prides itself by being the pioneer in this regard. The knowledge and skills acquired while studying in the program will enable students to critically think about the knowledge produced on migration with the ultimate aim of building the skills of young scholars from the region to contribute to the production of knowledge in this important field. The knowledge gained while studying in the program may be applied in careers within institutions such as governmental, non-governmental and international agencies, as well as universities, research organizations and private corporations dealing with the multitude of issues connected with migration and refugee movements. Students have the option of pursuing concentrations in migration or in refugee studies.
It is possible to work towards the MA in migration and refugee studies with other MAs and diplomas in the fields of humanity and social sciences simultaneously or sequentially. For more information, see Dual Graduate Degrees under the Academic Requirements and Regulations section.
